Boost your body’s immune system with this delicious substitute for tea or coffee. Coconut milk (or other non-dairy milk) and a variety of spices infuse this warming drink with healthful benefits. Turmeric and cinnamon contain powerful antioxidants and reduce inflammation, ginger aids digestion and black pepper improves the absorption of turmeric’s key nutrients. Honey tops it off with a natural sweetness. You can heat this on the stove and whisk the ingredients together and, if you wish, use an immersion blender at the end to achieve a lovely frothiness. It’s the perfect choice for hot drink on a chilly day.
- 1 1/2 cup non-dairy milk of choice, such as coconut or almond milk
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- pinch of ground black peppercorns
- 1/2 tsp each cinnamon and ground ginger
- honey to taste
- note that freshly grated turmeric and/or ginger work well too.
Add all ingredients to a saucepan and heat on medium to barely a simmer for 5-10 minutes. Use a whisk to stir in all ingredients. At this point, you can either pour in your mug, or blend to your liking for a frothy texture. If you use grated herbs, pour through a sieve to strain them out. Enjoy!
